Xegony Bard

Bellow Kiting

Minimum Level: 12

Where: Anyplace with an area large enough to run in circles.  I first experimented with this in East and North Karana on the various griffin mobs.

Effectiveness: Poor.  This is the first form of kiting that is practical for a bard.  The only real use of this is simply as a learning tool for later kiting methods.

Needed songs memorized:  Brusco’s Boastful Bellow (bellow) and Selo’s Accelerando (Selo’s).

Recommend  additional Songs: Hymn of Restoration (heal) and Elemental Rhythms (resists)

Mob Types: Any non-casting mob. Casting mobs can be done, but they will cast spells on you that need to be resisted or have the hp to be able to withstand the damage from them.

View:  I typically would zoom out to a third person view if possible so you can keep an eye on your target and any potential adds.

Bellow kiting is a very slow method of killing critters at a low level.  Brusco’s Boastful Bellow is a direct damage song that starts out doing 7 points of damage per cast and increases 1 point every other level or so.  The idea is to use the bard’s fast running speed (Spirit of the Wolf or other run speed buffs will generally work also) to stay out of a mob’s melee range. You then use the bellow song to damage the mob.

To start your kite you will need to have some form of run speed (Selo’s or Spirit of the Wolf-SoW) and you will need a target. Sing the bellow song to agro the mob. Now start to run in an oval shape pattern. The mob will constantly follow you.  Since you have a run speed buff, you will stay ahead of the mob.  Now sing your bellow song repeatedly to damage the mob until it dies.  Your twist during this form of kiting will be Selo’s, Bellow, Bellow (then repeat). If you have a SoW, you can simply do Bellow, Bellow, Bellow.  Keep an eye on the mob once it gets under 20%.  Many mobs will begin to flee when under 20%. You will need to follow it and continue to bellow or melee it until it dies.

While running along your path, it is possible that another mob will wander close and also agro onto you. You can continue to kite as normal, slowly killing the one you were on. When you finish killing that one, change to the other mob and you can kill that one. This will get you use to having a train of mobs chasing you. You can either continue to kill mobs that add or zone out when you kill one mob to clear your agro of the adds.  If you plan on zoning, please be curteous and announce it so that anyone near where your train will be when you zone can avoid that spot.

I would strongly suggest getting a Spirit of the Wolf buff from any of the classes able to cast it (Shaman, Druid, and higher-level rangers and beastlords) as it allows you more casts of the bellow song.  Realize that this form of kiting takes a long time since you are only doing 7-10 points of damage per cast (every 3 seconds) when you are level 12-20.
